My bird studies are created in my Lincolnshire studio using oil on canvas and each piece of art is unique. Ideas start when I observe nature whilst out walking which I later explore by making studies in my sketchbook. The robin has a reassuring year round presence and a beautiful song which is why I felt compelled to paint this delicate bird. Painting takes time and the oil paints take time to dry with the smell of turpentine permeating the air. From spring into summer the bees hum amongst the rosemary and lavender in my garden. I enjoy the solitude and stillness before I paint. I have developed my ideas from previous work so these canvas studies can be hung from a cotton loop within your interior. Each bird is lightly filled with clean wool to add to its form. They are completely individual and cannot be rushed.
